The Kano State Executive Council has approved over ₦8.2 billion for initiatives aimed at revitalizing education, improving water supply, and enhancing energy efficiency across the state.
The announcement came in statements issued on Sunday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, following the council’s 33rd meeting chaired by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
More than ₦4.9 billion has been allocated to key education sector projects. These efforts are designed to enhance infrastructure, raise learning standards, and expand access to quality education.
Planned interventions include:
Phase II renovation of Government Technical College, Ungogo
Settlement of outstanding debts to boarding school feeding suppliers
Production of instructional materials through Kano Printing Press
Completion and furnishing of the e-library at Kano State College of Education and Preliminary Studies
Funding of accreditation exercises at Kano State Polytechnic
Procurement of office furniture and fittings for Northwest University, Kano
The council emphasized that education remains central to Kano’s development agenda, with investments focused on supporting both academic and administrative efficiency.
Water and Energy Projects
A total of ₦3.3 billion has been earmarked for water supply and energy-related initiatives to improve access to clean water in urban and rural areas.
Key interventions include:

Construction of a modern water treatment plant at Taliwaiwai, Rano LGA

Payment of electricity and fuel bills for the State Water Board

Settlement of outstanding liabilities to KEDCO

Procurement of diesel and petrol for treatment plants

Management and maintenance of water supply infrastructure
The government stated that these measures are intended to ensure steady water supply, improve energy efficiency, and raise living standards across Kano State.
Governor Abba Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prioritizing projects that directly benefit citizens and strengthen the state’s infrastructure.
Earlier, on August 18, 2025, Kano State had approved contracts worth over ₦40.8 billion for the construction and rehabilitation of 17 township roads across key metropolitan areas, including Gwale, Nasarawa, Kumbotso, Fagge, Kano Municipal, Tarauni, Dala, and Ungogo.
