A total of 471 persons also sustained varying degrees of injuries in the crashes within the period under review.

Matthew disclosed this to journalists in Benin on Tuesday.

He said: “From January to December 2024, we recorded a total of 188 accidents, 90 killed while 471 were injured.”

A breakdown of the figures shows that the month of January 2024 recorded more casualties than every other months, accounting for 22 lives.

Matthew disclosed that most of the fatal crashes recorded were due to break failure, overspending, dangerous driving, use of phone while driving, route violation and others.

He explained that the Corps is stepping up campaign across the State to sensitize motorists on the need to imbibe safety culture while driving to ensure the safety of passengers and pedestrians.

The Edo FRSC boss who warned motorists against all forms of dangerous driving, to enable them arrive safely at their destinations, called on all stakeholders to work together to zero road traffic crash in the State during the year 2025.
