2024Edo Guber: Riverine group backs Ogie for PDP deputy governor

2 min read

The Coalition of Riverine Communities in Edo State has given their backing to the “Gentle Giant” of Edo politics, Osarodion Ogie Esq. endorsing him as the PDP deputy governorship candidate. According to spokesperson Comrade Ezekiel Daniel Ezekiel, Mr. Ogie has exemplified dedication and populism through his political career that started over 15 years ago as secretary of various parties until becoming Secretary to the State Government.

In their statement, the coalition praised Mr. Ogie’s down-to-earth leadership style which has made him respected across the 18 LGAs. As a prominent Ikpoba-Okha son, they expressed confidence he will effectively advocate for riverine development as deputy governor.

The group noted Mr. Ogie’s influence in his local government and beyond will boost the party’s chances of victory. In appealing to PDP leaders, National Coordinator Ipikuimoh Godfrey Owei said the 63-year-old brings in valuable votes as a team player who lets his work do the talking.

Those who know Osarodion Ogie describe him as a humble yet calculating grassroots mobilizer. Rising through the ranks of multiple parties, the soft-spoken “Gentle Giant” consistently delivered for both Governors Oshiomhole and Obaseki in key roles. While ambitious, in 2015 he forfeited his governorship dream to support Godwin Obaseki’s campaign and later appointment as SSG.

Emphasizing more on Ogie’s qualities, the National Secretary of the group, Hon. Samuel Pune Uroupa said despite keeping interviews rare, the results have constantly shown his strategic political acumen and ability to deliver for Edo PDP in areas like Ikpoba-Okha, where he resides, securing Ninety Five percent of the votes there.

With this endorsement, observers say the coalition recognize Ogie a trustworthy voice for riverine development.
