Mr. Levi Anyanwu a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) who is 24 years old, has been declared missing, according to the Bayelsa State Police Command. The registration number BYS/25A/0244 for Levi Anyanwu has been reported missing. The Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the command, according to reliable sources, has begun an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding his disappearance. The last time Anyanwu was seen was on October 8, 2025, at the Ijaw National Academy in Kaiama, which is in the Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area. In a statement issued on Sunday by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Musa Mohammed, the command directed the Anti-Kidnapping Unit to take all necessary steps to locate and bring back the missing corps member.
Initial reports suggested that Anyanwu might have been with fellow Jehovah’s Witnesses members, Mr. and Mrs. Knowledge, George. However, despite earlier visits, the couple informed authorities that he later left their home. According to police investigations, Mr. Anyanwu’s roommate, Oke Emmanuel, has confirmed that his friend will remain with the George family until October 6, 2025.
Mr. George went on to say that the corps member had complained of feeling unwell, was treated at the Kaiama Referral Hospital on October 4, was released on October 5, and then vanished on October 6. In addition, the police are looking into an alleged act of extortion committed by two inmates at the Igbara Correctional Centre in Ogun State.
According to reports, the inmates posed as kidnappers and defrauded the parents of the missing corps member of 100,000 yen. A suspicious call from 0906193291 was traced by detectives to one of the prisoners in Abeokuta. The suspect admitted to extorting money from an associate’s Opay account (7042793493) and obtaining the victim’s family contact information from social media. The missing corps member’s “recent social preferences and appetites” may have conflicted with his religious beliefs, according to investigators, which may have influenced his actions prior to his disappearance.
Despite the fact that there is no evidence of kidnapping in this case, the police confirmed that efforts are ongoing to gather all relevant information and conclude the investigation. A similar incident occurred in 2024, when Yahya Faruq, another corps member serving in Ikuru Town, Andoni LGA of Rivers State, went missing. The Rivers State Police later arrested four suspects connected to that case.
