All may not be well with the opposition camps as unsettlement rocks the major opposition parties in Edo State, APC, LP, others.
The opposition camps are reported to be running helter-skelter over political developments in the last few days in Edo.
Although the immediate cause of the unrest in these camps remains unknown, reports gathered by impeccable sources suggests that it may not be unconnected with the nomination of the Secretary to Edo State Government, Osarodion Ogie, by the PDP, yesterday.
It has been pomp across various quarters in Edo since yesterday when news poured-in that the Peoples Democratic Party in Edo State has nominated Osarodion Ogie as running mate to Asue Ighodalo, the governorship candidate of the PDP in the fast-approaching Edo governorship poll.
The gubernatorial election is scheduled for September 21st, this year.
The PDP, since 1999, will be parading its most prominent and consummate professional and politician viz, Asue Ighodalo and Osarodion Ogie.
While Ighodalo has cut his teeth in the corporate community, spearheading some of the biggest transactions of the 21st Century, Ogie on the other hand, remains an exceptional political figure whose contributions has seen to the peace, harmony and development prevalent in Edo today.
Members of the PDP and good-spirited Edos have been in joyous mood since yesterday.
It is not however the same in the opposition camps, as the development seems to be shaking their very foundations.
“What are we going to do now; who even gave the PDP the idea to nominate Ighodalo-Ogie, we thought they would miss it, I really do not know what we are going to do now; everybody should go back to their cocoon and plan; I am tired”, a frustrated APC leader in Edo North disclosed this morning; he is said to be in an angry mood following the announcement of Osarodion Ogie, yesterday.
Another major opposition party in Edo State may not be finding it funny as most of its members are now at the verge of moving to the PDP.
“How can we work against Ogie; a man who has consistently put our needs over his personal ambition; we can not work against Osarodion Ogie, it is impossible; while we were still discussing within ourselves over Asue Ighodalo, the PDP hit us with Osarodion Ogie, this is one fight we obviously can not win”, opposition members noted.
Hundreds of members of these opposition are now under pressure to remain in their parties, as they may have concluded moves to the PDP following Ogie’s nomination.
“We can not remain here, it is injurious to work against our own, we may need to move after next week’s meeting”, members said at a heated-up meeting this morning in GRA.
Recall that the PDP Candidate, Asue Ighodalo, was nominated after raking in 577 votes in the PDP primaries that held at the Lawn Tennis Court of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City, the Edo State capital.
Yesterday, Edo went agog over Osarodion Ogie’s nomination as running mate to Asue Ighodalo; a development that has brought significant advantage to the Ighodalo-Ogie ticket.
It is reported that, from next week, the PDP will be receiving in its fold a huge number of intakes, from across the eighteen local government areas, who have vowed to work for the Party’s victory.
