Operatives of the Edo State Command of the Nigerian Police Force have successfully dismantled a two-man robbery and kidnapping gang operating in the Ugbowo and Egor areas of the state.
Around 9 PM on Sunday, the gang attacked Valentine Igbinevbo at his hostel in Ugbowo, stealing his car and other valuables, and abducting his friend in the process.
Swift action from the Divisional Police Officer of Ugbowo, responding to a distress call, led to a confrontation with the suspects. A shootout ensued, during which one male suspect was neutralized, while the second managed to escape.
SP Moses Yamu, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident, noting that the stolen vehicle, a cut-to-size gun, a live cartridge, a cutlass, and three phones of different makes were recovered.
The abducted victim was rescued unharmed, received medical attention, and has been reunited with his family. The suspect’s body has been deposited at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH).
The Commissioner of Police, CP Nemi Iwo, praised the swift response of the Ugbowo DPO and his team, issuing a stern warning to criminal elements to steer clear of Edo State.
