Dr. Mrs. Abimbola Oyetunde, the General Manager of Radio Nigeria Bronze FM Benin and Member of the Board of Trustees representing the South-South Zone F, has officially declared her candidacy for Deputy National President of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ). If successful, she will make history as the first woman to hold this prestigious position.
Dr. Oyetunde announced her bid at the NUJ press center in Benin City while presenting her nomination form to Comrade Festus Alenkhe, Chairman of the NUJ Edo State Council, alongside fellow journalists. During her speech, she committed to using her extensive experience in union leadership and management to further the growth and success of the NUJ.
With a distinguished career, Dr. Oyetunde has held several key roles within the NUJ, including Chairman of the FRCN Lagos Chapel, Secretary of the Lagos Council, and Special Adviser to the NUJ National Chairman. Her involvement in various union committees has provided her with the expertise needed to lead on a national level.
Comrade Festus Alenkhe praised Dr. Oyetunde for her bold decision to run and pledged the council’s support for her historic campaign. Other NUJ leaders, including former Chairman Comrade Ralph Okhiria and Edo NAWOJ Chairperson Adesuwa Louisa Ehimuan, also expressed their backing.
The NUJ delegate conference, scheduled for November 27, 2024, in Owerri, Imo State, will see the election of new union executives. Dr. Oyetunde stands poised to break new ground as the first female Deputy National President of the NUJ.
