Yuletide tragedy: 2 dead, 4 seriously injured in Edo road crash

The Edo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Cyril Mathew, has confirmed a fatal multiple road crash that claimed the lives of two persons in Benin, capital of Edo State.

Four other persons also sustained serious, but varying degrees of injuries in the crash that occurred in the evening hours of Tuesday, at the Ikhuenero community, along the Benin-Agbor Road.

The State Sector Commander of FRSC who confirmed the sad incident in a statement, disclosed that three vehicles were involved in the crash.

He attributed the cause to excessive speed.

“The accident happened around 6:10 pm along the Benin-Agbor Road by the Guinness depot due to speed,” he said.

Mathew explained that six people, including two male adults and four female adults, were involved in the accident. He addrd that two died while four others were injured.

According to him, the injured victims were rushed to a hospital for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited in a morgue.

Cyril who cautioned motorists against overspeeding, urged them to prioritise safety, obey traffic rules and regulations, avoid night journeys and drunk driving, and always fasten their seat belts to ensure safe travel during the yuletide.
