Italy-based woman escapes death, loses ₦aira, foreign currencies, as ex-husband sets apartment ablaze
2 min readOperatives of Ekiadolor Police Division of Edo State Command have arrested a 55-year-old man, Osaro Ahunwan, for allegedly setting his ex wife’s apartment ablaze for refusing him access into her apartment.
Also arrested over the same incident is the older border of the victim, Odaro Oviarobo, who allegedly conspired with Osaro.
The incident occurred in the wee hours of New Year day (January 1), at Idumwonwina, near Oluku, Ovia North-East Local Government Area of Edo State.
It was gathered that trouble started when the 54-year-old Italy-based businesswoman, Tina Uyi, who just returned to Nigeria from a day before the incident (Tuesday, December 31, 2024), suddenly heard a loud bang on her windows.
Upon inquiry, Tina discovered that it was her ex husband, Osaro who banged the window, demanding entry into her apartment.
Tina was said to have refused him into her apartment, claiming that their relationship had ended when her family returned her pride price since April, 2024.
Not satisfied, Osaro allegedly threatened to burn down the apartment with the occupants inside.
“Despite Tina’s plea for him to leave the premises, Osaro reportedly shattered the glass windows, wet the apartment with petro, and set it on fire.
“The inferno quickly engulfed the building, but neighbors successfully rescued Tina’s nonagenarian parents from the flames,” an anonymous source said.
Men of the Edo State Fire Service finally put out the fire, after it had wrecked havoc on the building.
The victim was said to have sustained third-degree burns in the incident and is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed private hospital in Benin City.
She also lost huge some of money both in local and foreign currencies, and packages from her friends in Italy to their loved ones in Nigeria, to the inferno.
Meanwhile, Osaro and one Odaro Oviarobo (Tina’s older brother) have reportedly been arrested by operatives of Ekiadolor Police Division, following the suspect’s confession that Tina’s brother provided him with detailed information about his sister’s return.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Moses Yamu, also confirmed the incident.
