Condolence Visit to Titus Akhigbe led by NUJ Deputy National President, Dr. Abimbola Oyetunde

The Deputy National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Dr. Abimbola Oyetunde, led a delegation to condole with Mr. Titus Akhigbe over the sudden and heartbreaking loss of his beloved wife. The visit was marked by prayers, words of comfort, and a strong show of solidarity.

Speaking during the visit, Dr. Oyetunde, expressed condolence of the National President, Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ, Comrade Alhassan Yahaya and other colleagues.

She said, “In moments like this, it is natural to ask, ‘Why me?’ or ‘Why now?’ But we must trust that God, the giver of life, knows best. Take solace in the legacies your wife left behind and the shared memories of love you both cherished.”

She added, “I pray that the good Lord will comfort you and your children. Where her life stopped, your own life will not be cut short. The storms of life will not come near your household again. Be strong, and may God grant you the strength to carry on.”

Dr. Oyetunde also highlighted the importance of remaining resilient for the sake of his children, urging him to draw strength from the love and memories they shared with his late wife.

In his response, Mr. Titus Akhigbe expressed heartfelt gratitude for the visit. “I am overwhelmed by the love and solidarity shown to me during this dark time. Thank you, Dr. Abimbola Oyetunde, and the entire NUJ family, for your prayers, encouragement, and presence. They mean so much to me and my family,” he said.

The delegation included notable members of the NUJ leadership, Head of News, Bronze FM, Comrade Chinyere Oyeagba, Comrade James Akpojero, Chairperson, Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ Edo State, Adesuwa Ehimuan and other colleagues who lamented the unfortunate circumstances that brought them to Mr. Akhigbe’s residence. They prayed for peace and strength for his family while pledging continued support.

As part of the burial arrangements, Mr. Akhigbe announced that most traditional rites had been concluded, and a service of songs is scheduled for the 17th January 2025 at Comrade Nosa Close, KB Estate Junction, off Convenant Road, Benin City, Edo State. Saturday 18th January 2025 Interment and Social Dance, Sunday 19th January 2025, Thanksgiving Service at Mountain Horeb International Ministry, Osazee Street, Upper Mission Extension, Benin City.

The visit underscored the importance of communal support in times of grief, as the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ National stood firmly with Mr. Akhigbe, offering comfort and prayers during this challenging period.

It will be recalled that Comrade Titus Akhigbe was a two time Secretary of Edo State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ.
