The Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Barrister (Mrs.) Onomen Briggs, recently led a delegation to review reconstruction projects at several schools in the Edo South Senatorial District.

Accompanied by Dr. Osahon Aibangbee, Engr. Martins, and Honourable Pastor Mrs. Angela Okpamen, the Edo South board member, Mrs. Briggs assessed the progress of initiatives aimed at upgrading school infrastructure.

During the visit, the delegation toured Ebo Primary School, Ore-Oghene Primary School, Evbareke Junior Secondary School, Useh Junior Secondary School, and Okhokhugbo Primary School.

At Ore-Oghene Primary School, Mrs. Briggs met with Headmistress Helen Ogbemudia Ese, who expressed concerns about the deteriorating condition of the school buildings and the impact on pupils welfare. In response, the Chairman assured that the reconstruction works would be completed as quickly as possible.

In a post-inspection interview, Mrs. Briggs expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far. She mentioned that she envisions the projects being finalized within a couple of weeks, a development that will significantly improve the learning environment.

Addressing concerns over vandalism, she emphasized the importance of community involvement. According to Mrs. Briggs, parents, teachers, students, and local residents must take ownership of these facilities to ensure they are well-protected and properly maintained.

Mrs. Briggs also revealed that over a hundred schools across the state’s three senatorial districts are undergoing renovations and reconstruction where needed. As part of this comprehensive initiative, these schools will receive essential furnishings and amenities designed to create a safe and conducive learning environment.

Barrister (Mrs.) Briggs reaffirmed the Edo State Government’s commitment to revitalizing education through strategic infrastructure development. She urged all stakeholders to support these efforts, stressing that a collective approach is key to transforming public education and securing a brighter future for the state’s children.
