Barr. Mrs. Onomen Briggs, Executive Chairman of the Edo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), has been on an extensive inspection tour of school renovation and construction projects across the state. Having recently completed assessments in the Edo Central and Edo South Senatorial Districts, she continued her review this week in the Edo North Senatorial District.
During her visit, Mrs. Briggs toured several schools, including Ohobo Primary School in Afuze-Emai, Owan East; Odion Primary School in Uokha; Osamaran Primary School in Osamaran Village; and Ibienafe Junior Secondary School in South Ibie, Auchi. At Ohobo Primary School, she expressed satisfaction with a newly built two-classroom block featuring playrooms. The facility, now complete and awaiting furnishing, stands as a testament to quality workmanship and timely delivery.
While some projects have reached completion, others remain underway, with certain sites reporting around 60% progress. Mrs. Briggs stressed that maintaining high standards during construction is essential to ensure that all projects ultimately provide a safe and conducive learning environment.
In addition to reviewing infrastructure, Mrs. Briggs took the opportunity to engage with educators. At Ohobo Primary School, she held a candid discussion with headmistress Mrs. Imasuen Uwaokoro Success and her team. Emphasizing that teacher performance directly impacts students’ academic outcomes, she urged the educators to consistently excel in their vital role of shaping young minds.
Reflecting on her recent inspections in the Edo Central and Edo South Senatorial Districts, Mrs. Briggs noted, “The level and quality of work in those districts have been impressive, with improvements markedly superior to previous observations.” Her positive feedback from earlier tours reinforces her confidence in the state’s ongoing commitment to educational excellence.
Speaking after the Edo North inspection, Mrs. Briggs praised Edo State Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo for his dedication to enhancing the education sector. She highlighted the significant progress made in school infrastructure and administration within just 100 days in office, underscoring the governor’s steadfast commitment to creating improved learning environments for the state’s children.
With these continued efforts, the state government reaffirms its commitment to ensuring every child in Edo State has access to quality education in a conducive environment.
