Office of the First Lady Rescue Victim of Child Trafficking

Benin City, Edo State – March 4, 2025
The Office of the First Lady of Edo State has successfully rescued a 14-year-old female victim of child trafficking. The rescue operation was carried out in collaboration with other relevant authorities.
According to a statement by the Coordinator, Office of the First Lady, Mrs. Edesili Okpebholo Anani, the victim was rescued from the Aduwawa, garage in Benin City.
Mrs. Anani who was represented by Mrs Mabel Obeto, Protocol Officer, Office of the First Lady said that, Her Excellency is committed to ensuring that child traffickers and their syndicates face the full weight of the law.
The victim, a native of Plateau State, Bokkos Local Government Area, was allegedly trafficked to Benin City by a woman who promised her and two others a better life.
However, upon arrival, the victims were kept in an unknown residences for forced labor. According to the victim, ” our madam said our next trip was to go to Ghana, I asked the madam, what the nature of the job in Ghana, she said prostitution. She gave us something like powder and said we should swallow it, I did not, I inhaled it and lost my senses, the other girls, swallowed it and collapsed immediately”.
“She took us lot of pictures and sent to her phone contact who said they liked us. The day we where going to Ghana, I, insisted I will not go to Ghana for prostitution, that was how the vehicle dropped me here at the garage in Aduwawa, the two girls went with madam to Ghana”.
The Office of the First Lady has assured that the victim will receive necessary support and care at the Daisy Danjuma Women Center and efforts are being made to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
This rescue operation underscores the commitment of the Edo State Government to combating child trafficking and protecting the rights of vulnerable children.
