Hon Bright Iyamu Raises Alarm Over Resurgence Of Cult Killings

The honourable member representing Orhionmwon South Constituency in the Edo State House of Assembly, Hon. Bright Aitenguoba Iyamu has urged the state government and security agencies to intensify efforts to restore peace and security in Edo State, during today plenary.

This appeal comes in the wake of recent violent incidents and cultism a major social vice responsible resulting in loss of lives of youth, noting that a doctor was recently killed at UBTH in cult-related violence.

The lawmaker stated that last Friday, a man was shot dead in G.R.A. due to cult violence pointing out that similar disturbing incidents were going on in other parts of the state.

Hon Iyamu further stated that Section four of the Secret Cult and Similar Activities (Prohibition) Law 2025 clearly abolished secret cults and prohibits cultism throughout Edo State.

Hon. Iyamu, in his motion, urged government, police, and other security agencies to immediately enforce strict measures to prevent more cult-related killings and violent crimes.

The lawmaker expressed disappointment over the recent violent incidents and called on the Edo State Government and security agencies to take decisive action.

The Executive Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okepbholo, has been commended for swift action following the incidents, with several individuals apprehended in connection with the crimes.

Hon Iyamu appealed to community youths and vigilantes to join efforts in identifying and exposing cultists for them to face the full weight of the law.

He also asked the government and media to collaborate in enlightening the public about the provisions of the anti-cultism Prohibition Law across the state.

Other lawmakers who spoke on the issue called on the Edo government to implement all provisions of the law fully by ensuring perpetrators were arrested, tried, and punished.

The speaker, Rt Hon Blessing Agbebaku, directed that clean copies of the resolution be sent to the relevant authorities for further actions.
