In commemoration of the International Day of the African Child, the Coordinator, Office of the First Lady, Edo State. Mrs Edesili Okpebholo
Anani, has issued a statement underscoring the office’s dedication to the protection, education and empowerment of children across the state.

She acknowledged the historic significance of June 16, recalling the 1976 Soweto Uprising where school children stood against educational injustice.

Highlighting this year’s theme, “Education for All Children in Africa: The Time is Now,” the Coordinator called on government, families, stakeholders and partners to break down barriers be they social, economic, or systemic that prevent children from accessing safe, quality learning.

“Education is the most powerful tool we can offer our children to unlock their potential and reshape our society,” she affirmed.

Mrs Anani praised teachers, caregivers, and development organizations for their ongoing efforts to create supportive environments where every child can thrive.

She also reiterated the office’s commitment to champion policies and programs that expand educational opportunities, strengthen child protection, and promote gender equity.

The Coordinator urged all stakeholders to treat this observance as more than a date on the calendar, but as a yearly reminder of the promise each child holds and the collective responsibility to help them fulfill it.
