In a renewed hope to improve the well-being and socio-economic standing of women and girls in Edo State, the Coordinator Office of the First Lady, Edo State, Mrs. Edesili Okpebholo Anani, has commended the Lady Mechanic Initiative for its commitment to empowering women through technical training.

During an on-the-spot visit to the Lady Mechanic workshop in GRA, Benin City, Mrs. Anani praised the founder, Sandra Aguebor, for her vision, resilience, and remarkable achievements in uplifting young women.

“Your dedication and hard work have paid off, and I’m thrilled to see the impact,” Mrs. Anani said. “Thank you for being a role model and showing what can be achieved with determination and perseverance.”

She further assured the team of the state government’s support under the administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo, emphasizing the government’s commitment to initiatives that foster self-reliance among women and girls. “This program is a clear demonstration of the power of collaboration and vision. We are proud of what you have accomplished,” she added.

Highlighting the success of the program in Edo State, Mrs. Anani noted that 50 girls have been trained in Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) conversion, a highly sought-after skill that also contributes to environmental sustainability.

Sandra Aguebor, founder of the Lady Mechanic Initiative, explained that the goal of the program is to equip women with vocational skills in mechanics and CNG conversion, enabling them to become financially independent and reducing the prevalence of social vices among young women.

She announced that the graduation ceremony for the 50 trained beneficiaries will take place on Friday, July 4, 2025, at the New Festival Hall, Government House, Benin City.

The Lady Mechanic Initiative, which started in Lagos, has now expanded to 20 states across Nigeria, and continues to grow, offering life-changing opportunities to women and girls from various backgrounds.

The visit and upcoming graduation underscore the importance of strategic interventions in women’s empowerment, and the lasting impact such initiatives can have in building a more inclusive and self-sufficient society.
