Table tennis is having a massive moment across Africa as the 2025 African Youth Games (AYG) in Angola witness a record-breaking surge in participation! 🏓🔥
Set to run from December 10–20 in Luanda and five other Angolan cities, this year’s AYG has smashed all previous records with over 30 countries confirming their table tennis teams — the highest ever in the event’s history. That’s a huge leap from just 14 nations at the inaugural edition in Morocco (2010), 24 in Botswana (2014), and 25 in Algeria (2018).
ITTF Africa President Wahid Oshodi couldn’t hide his excitement: “The turnout for the 2025 AYG in Angola shows how fast table tennis is growing among African youth. We’ve even surpassed the number of countries that played at the last African Games in Ghana! With more support for our Member Associations, the future looks incredibly bright.”
Countries hitting the tables include: Algeria 🇩🇿, Angola 🇦🇴, Benin 🇧🇯, Botswana 🇧🇼, Burundi 🇧🇮, Cameroon 🇨🇲, Chad 🇹🇩, Côte d’Ivoire 🇨🇮, Djibouti 🇩🇯, Egypt 🇪🇬, Ethiopia 🇪🇹, Ghana 🇬🇭, Guinea 🇬🇳, Kenya 🇰🇪, Lesotho 🇱🇸, Liberia 🇱🇷, Madagascar 🇲🇬, Malawi 🇲🇼, Mauritius 🇲🇺, Namibia 🇳🇦, Nigeria 🇳🇬, Rwanda 🇷🇼, Senegal 🇸🇳, Seychelles 🇸🇨, South Africa 🇿🇦, Tanzania 🇹🇿, Uganda 🇺🇬, Zambia 🇿🇲, Zimbabwe 🇿🇼… and several making their AYG debut! 🌍
A landmark moment: Angola is the first Portuguese-speaking nation to host the African Youth Games, perfectly timed with the country’s 50th independence anniversary celebrations. 🎉
Young stars aged 14–17 will battle across 33 sports, but right now, all eyes are on the ping-pong tables lighting up the continent!
