Governor Ademola Adeleke has declared a total lockdown in Igbajo, Boluwaduro LGA, following violent clashes that erupted Sunday night over the death of the town’s immediate past traditional ruler, Owa of Igbajo, Oba Adegboyega Famodun, who passed away last week after a brief illness.
What started as a mourning dispute quickly spiralled into chaos:
- Youths attempted to enforce market closure as a mark of respect for the late monarch.
- Palace loyalists insisted the market must remain open.
- The disagreement escalated into a full-blown brawl that lasted into the early hours of Monday.
Governor Adeleke’s Response
In a statement by Commissioner for Information Kolapo Alimi, the governor condemned the violence and ordered an immediate 24-hour curfew until peace is fully restored.
“My administration will not tolerate any breakdown of law and order. A joint team of Army, Police, DSS and Civil Defence has taken over Igbajo with round-the-clock patrols. Anyone — openly or secretly — trying to cause further chaos will be arrested and prosecuted.”

Other Immediate Fallout
- Igbajo Polytechnic has suspended all academic activities for Monday 1 & Tuesday 2 December. Registrar Ezekiel Onipede: “We are monitoring the situation in the interest of staff and students.”
Residents have been told to stay indoors except for emergencies. Markets, shops and schools remain shut.
Oba Famodun, a former Osun APC chairman and prominent politician, died last Saturday. His burial arrangements are yet to be announced.
Security forces are on high alert as the town mourns one of its most influential sons.
