AI Cloning Morgan Freeman’s Voice Is ‘Robbery,’ Actor Says

By Peter.

Hollywood icon Morgan Freeman has issued a stern warning against unauthorized AI voice cloning, calling it outright theft.

In a candid interview with The Guardian, the Oscar-winning actor—renowned for his unmistakable baritone in The Shawshank Redemption and March of the Penguins—likened AI mimicry to stealing his livelihood.

“I get paid for doing stuff like that. So if you’re gonna do it without me, you’re robbing me.”

Freeman revealed his legal team has been “very, very busy” tackling multiple cases of unauthorized voice replication.

He also condemned the rise of AI-generated actors, criticizing a virtual actress currently being promoted in Hollywood:

“Nobody likes her because she’s not real—and that takes the part of a real person.”

The 88-year-old star thanked fans for helping flag AI deepfakes of his voice last year, crediting their vigilance with protecting authenticity in the industry.

Freeman joins Scarlett Johansson, Emma Thompson, and other A-listers in pushing back against AI’s encroachment on creative professions.

As deepfake technology advances, the battle over voice rights and digital identity in Hollywood intensifies.
