Anambra Police recover corpse of 7-year-old boy at construction site, arrest father

Operatives of Anambra State have arrested a 40-year-old man, Alfred Bassey, in connection with the sudden death of his seven-year-old son (name withheld).
The incident occurred on December 13, 2024, at a construction site, along Trans- Nkisi Layout, Onisha.
A statement by the Command’s spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the suspect who hailed from Abi, Cross River State, took the minor away from his mother against her wish.
“Preliminary investigation reveals that the father of the victim forcibly took the minor from the mother and has been living with him in an uncompleted building at Trans-Nkisi Layout Onitsha.
“Furthermore, on 11th December 2024, the lifeless body of the child was found in a soakaway pit dug in the abandoned uncompleted building after the suspect left the child for an unknown destination,” the statement said.
Ikenga added that the body of the child was later recovered and taken to the hospital where he was confirmed dead by a doctor.
Meanwhile, the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Obono Itam, has admonished parents to prioritize the well-being of their children against any difference they may have had with their spouse to avoid exposing them to emotional and psychological trauma and/or death.
Itam gave the admonision while reacting to the sad incident of the death of the boy.
