The Nigerian Army has approved the promotion of 28 Brigadier Generals to the rank of Major General and 77 Colonels to Brigadier General, following the decision of the Army Council on November 27.
Among those elevated to the rank of Major General are the Director of Defence Information, SM Uba; Brig Gen O. Adegbe of the Defence Intelligence Agency; Brig Gen RE Hedima, Acting Chief of Military Intelligence (Army); and Brig Gen RT Utsaha, Deputy Director of Defence Operations. Others include Brig Gen AM Umar, Commandant of the Warrant Officer Academy; Brig Gen S. Sulaiman, Deputy Military Secretary (Army); Brig Gen IO Bassey, Director, Nigerian Army Operations Centre; and Brig Gen CA Ekeator of the Nigerian Army School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering.
Additional officers promoted to Major General include Brig Gen SY Yakasai, Acting Director of Procurement in the Office of the Chief of Army Staff; Brig Gen WL Nzidee of Army Headquarters Logistics; Brig Gen SA Emmanuel of the Nigerian Army Signals; Brig Gen SS Tilawan, Acting Commander, Sector 3 Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI; Brig Gen MO Agi, Desk Officer, TETFund, Nigerian Defence Academy; and Brig Gen IM Abbas, Commander, 34 Brigade.
Brig Gen ZA Saidu was promoted posthumously.
Those elevated from Colonel to Brigadier General include Colonels AA Alkali of the Nigerian Army Dog Centre; Y. Ibrahim of the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, Abuja; NN Gambo of the Army Headquarters Department of Civil Military Affairs; and A. Saidu of the Nigerian Army Finance Corps. Others promoted are Colonels A. Ali of Army Headquarters Garrison; I. Waziri from the Office of the Chief of Defence Staff; MM Sani of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji; AO Ndah of Army Headquarters Training; IB Sheriff of Headquarters 9 Brigade; KR Apata of the Army Headquarters Provost Group; and MK Akpuogwu of Operation Whirl Stroke.
More officers include PU Nnaji of the Nigerian Army Operations Monitoring Support Team; MT Nagudu of the Nigerian Army Armour School; KO Bukoye, Commander, 401 Special Forces Brigade; O. Adole of the Nigerian Army Medical Corps; JA Ikagba of the 68 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital; DC Ibeh of 8 Division Medical Services; GS Chohwore of the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital; OG Okoye of the Nigerian Army Reference Hospital; and YK Audu of the Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI, among others.
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) urged the newly promoted officers to demonstrate exemplary leadership, inspire their subordinates through personal conduct, and adopt bold, innovative, and unconventional strategies capable of delivering swift and decisive responses to Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.
He also emphasized strict adherence to their oath of allegiance, noting that their loyalty to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria must remain absolute, unwavering, and beyond reproach.
