Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen Waidi Shaibu, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s unbreakable commitment to wounded-in-action troops, assuring them that “your sacrifices will never be in vain” and that they will receive world-class medical attention.
The assurance was delivered on Sunday by the Chief of Administration (Army), Maj-Gen Isah Abdullahi, during an assessment visit to the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital, Kaduna, now widely regarded as the Army’s flagship medical facility.
Key Highlights from the Visit
- Maj-Gen Abdullahi personally interacted with dozens of wounded soldiers recovering from operations across the North-East, North-West and other theatres.
- He described the hospital’s transformation as “a complete paradigm shift” with modern wards, upgraded theatres, advanced diagnostic equipment and improved welfare packages.
- The facility now serves not only treats military personnel but has become a centre of excellence serving civilians from Kaduna and neighbouring states.
- Immediate challenges identified during last week’s preliminary visit are already being addressed under direct orders from the COAS.
Message to Wounded Heroes
Speaking directly to the soldiers, Maj-Gen Abdullahi said:
“The Chief of Army Staff has directed that everything possible be done to ensure you receive the very best medical care. Our goal is to rehabilitate you fully and, where possible, return you to active duty as quickly and safely as your health permits. The nation is proud of you.”
Hospital Leadership Responds
Chief Medical Director, Brig-Gen Godwin Ogoh, briefed the delegation on ongoing upgrades and expressed gratitude for the renewed focus on welfare, noting that morale among both patients and staff has “never been higher”.
The visit is part of Lt-Gen Shaibu’s first-week-in-office priority to overhaul medical support systems for troops, with similar assessments planned for other military reference hospitals nationwide.
The Nigerian Army says the sacrifices of its wounded heroes remain the bedrock of the nation’s security.
