Edo State Police have arrested 24-year-old Benin-based TikTok creator Osarobo Omoyemen, better known as Madam Oil Rice, for staging her own kidnapping in a desperate bid for social media engagement.
According to a statement by Police PRO CPS Moses Yamu, the influencer posted a dramatic video claiming she was abducted along Upper Sakponba Road, then “rescued” by police who allegedly detained her at Akpata Police Station and demanded ₦10,000 bail.
Investigation revealed the entire story was fabricated. During interrogation, Madam Oil Rice confessed it was all scripted purely to gain followers and views. Police also recovered a deleted clip showing an accomplice in the background openly begging viewers to follow her page — exposing the real motive.
The Command slammed the stunt as “misleading, capable of inciting hostility against law enforcement and causing unnecessary panic.” She was arraigned in court on Thursday, November 20, 2025, while efforts continue to arrest her accomplices.
Police warned content creators against using fake crimes to trend, saying the arrest serves as a strong deterrent.
