A devastating road accident on Ikorodu Road, opposite Olabode House near Anthony (before Obanikoro), Lagos, has claimed the lives of an eight-month-old female infant and an adult woman, while 10 others sustained serious injuries on Sunday, December 14, 2025.
According to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA):
- A red Tata commercial bus traveling at excessive speed from Palmgrove toward Anthony suddenly lost control, veered off its lane, breached the median, and smashed head-on into an oncoming Volkswagen commercial bus heading from Anthony to Palmgrove.
- The violent impact instantly killed the adult female passenger; the infant later succumbed to injuries.
- 10 victims rescued: 6 from the Volkswagen bus, 4 from the Tata—including both drivers with serious injuries.
LASTMA, assisted by public good Samaritans, extricated trapped passengers. The Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) rushed the injured to hospitals, while State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU) evacuated the deceased. Ilupeju Police provided security; the scene was cordoned off, vehicles cleared, and traffic restored.
LASTMA Boss Condoles Families, Warns Drivers
General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki extended condolences, especially to the infant’s injured mother: “This is a collective grief… Praying for consolation and speedy recovery.”
He slammed recklessness: “Commercial drivers must restrain speed, maintain vehicles—especially brakes. Recklessness has irreversible consequences.”
LASTMA reaffirmed commitment to proactive management, rapid response, and enlightenment—urging all road users to prioritize safety.
