Bakers Reject Government Claim of Flour Price Reduction

By Comfort Asemota

Nigerian bakers have debunked recent claims that flour prices have been reduced, stating that the cost of production remains high and prices in the market have not dropped. Industry stakeholders argue that rising operational costs and supply chain challenges continue to affect bread and other flour-based products.

The Bakers Association emphasized that any announcements regarding price cuts must reflect the realities on the ground, warning that misleading statements could cause confusion among consumers and retailers. Members highlighted factors such as import costs, transportation, and energy prices as key drivers keeping flour prices elevated.

The association called on policymakers to engage industry stakeholders directly to find sustainable solutions, rather than making public claims that do not align with market conditions. They stressed the need for consistent government support, subsidies, and effective regulation to ensure affordable flour and bakery products for Nigerian households.

Consumers are advised to stay informed about actual price changes and monitor official updates from both the government and industry representatives to avoid misconceptions.
