BREAST CANCER AWARENESS WALK 2025: EDO STATE JOINS GLOBAL COMMEMORATION OF PINK OCTOBER

In a strong show of solidarity and commitment to women’s health, the Office of the First Lady, Edo State, in collaboration with the BeLiEF & Care Foundation, Edo Specialist Hospital hosted the 2025 Breast Cancer Awareness Walk as part of activities marking Pink October.

 

The event aimed to educate, sensitize, and empower women to take proactive steps toward safeguarding their health through regular screenings and self-examinations.

 

In her welcome address, the Coordinator, Office of the First Lady, Mrs. Edesili Okpebholo Anani, emphasized the importance of early detection and access to proper medical care in reducing breast cancer-related deaths.

 

Mrs. Anani expressed appreciation to the Executive Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for his continued support and investment in the healthcare sector through the provision of modern medical facilities and improved access to health services across the state.

Also speaking, the Chief Medical Director, Edo Specialist Hospital, Dr. Anthonia Njoku, commended the initiative and expressed gratitude to all partners and supporters of women’s health.

 

She highlighted that, as part of the ongoing commitment to women’s wellness, free screenings for breast and cervical cancers were being offered during the event.

The awareness walk, which attracted dignitaries, healthcare professionals, advocacy groups, and members of the public, served as a platform to promote early detection and reduce the stigma surrounding breast cancer.

 

The 2025 Breast Cancer Awareness Walk was widely regarded as a resounding success, reinforcing the collective resolve of Edo women and stakeholders to prioritize health, spread awareness, and take proactive action in the fight against breast cancer.
