Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany admitted that his team lost momentum in the second half of their Champions League clash against Arsenal on Wednesday night.
The Bundesliga champions, who entered the game unbeaten in the tournament, had hoped to continue their strong start. Despite Jurrien Timber giving Arsenal an early lead, Lennart Karl scored to level the game for Bayern following a brilliant team move.
However, Arsenal pulled ahead in the second half with goals from Noni Madueke and Gabriel Martinelli, securing a memorable victory over the German side.
“Even so, we regained momentum and managed to equalize,” Kompany said.
“At halftime, I felt we had a real chance to win the game if we maintained our performance. Unfortunately, we couldn’t find our rhythm in the second half.
“Meanwhile, Arsenal controlled the match. They managed the game very well and capitalized on small moments to their advantage.
“I won’t make excuses. We have to acknowledge that Arsenal were the better team—that’s all.”
