Coordinator Office Of The First Lady Enjoins Nigerians to Seek Effective Epileptic Treatment

The Coordinator Office of the First Lady, Mrs Edesili Anani has enjoined Nigerians to seek treatment for Epilepsy as it is a most common non-infectious neurological disorder in developing countries, including Nigeria.
She stated this during a symposium held at Saint Gabriel The Archangel Catholic Church, Sapele Road, Benin City to mark purple day 2025 against Epilepsy.
The Coordinator who was represented by Haija Nimata Ikhilor, Wife of the Secretary to the State Government, decried that despite modern medical advances, there is still deep-rooted misconceptions and stigma that continue to overshadow the true nature of epilepsy.

The Coordinator who noted that Epilepsy was misunderstood as a spiritual affliction caused by supernatural forces such as witchcraft and evil spirits, urged residents to disregard such myth as it was an erroneous interpretation.

On his part ,Guest Lecturer at the event Professor Frank Imariahgbe, a Neurologist from the University Of Benin Teaching Hospital said Epilepsy was not a contagious and deadly disease but a brain disorder that causes repeated seizure, uncontrolled seizure can interfere with life and lead to early death.
Earlier in a remark, Convener of the event, President of Angie Epilepsy Foundation, Mrs Angela Asemota said eradicating epilepsy around the world has become pertinent that is why the symposium was organised to mark the 2025 Purple day celebration.
