David Beckham Calls Knighthood from King Charles III His ‘Proudest Moment’

On Tuesday, former England football captain David Beckham was officially knighted by King Charles III at Windsor Castle, calling it his “proudest moment.”

The 50-year-old, who won 115 caps for England and played for top clubs like Manchester United and Real Madrid, was honored for his outstanding contributions to sport and philanthropy.

Reflecting on the ceremony, Beckham said it was “quite a moment” for a kid from East London to stand at Windsor Castle and be knighted by the King—“the world’s most respected institution.”

“Without doubt, this is my proudest moment,” he added.

The style icon wore a bespoke grey suit designed by his wife, Victoria Beckham, who attended with his parents, Ted and Sandra.

Beckham, formally “Sir David” since the honor was announced in June, noted that Victoria—formerly of the Spice Girls—is now “Lady Beckham.”

When asked if he spoke with the King, Beckham revealed Charles had complimented his suit.

He said the day was especially meaningful as a lifelong admirer of the monarchy.

“I’ve been incredibly fortunate in my career—winning trophies, achieving dreams—but receiving a knighthood is beyond anything I ever imagined,” he said.
