Sean “Diddy” Combs is firing back hard against Netflix’s upcoming four-part docuseries Sean Combs: The Reckoning, calling it a “shameful hit piece” that relies on “stolen and unauthorized footage” — including private conversations and unfinished pre-indictment material he says was never meant for the public eye. The 55-year-old music mogul, currently serving a 50-month sentence in Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center after his September 2025 conviction on federal trafficking and racketeering charges, issued the statement through a spokesperson on Monday, December 1, 2025, just one day before the series drops globally on Netflix.
Combs’ team accuses the production of misappropriating material from his personal archives, footage he’s been compiling since his teens for an independent storytelling project. “As Netflix and CEO Ted Sarandos know, Mr. Combs has been amassing footage since he was 19 to tell his own story, in his own way,” the statement reads, slamming the streamer for what they call a betrayal of trust.
The real salt in the wound? Executive producer Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Diddy’s longtime rival who’s been mocking him online for years amid the lawsuits and trials. Combs’ rep called Netflix’s decision to team up with 50 Cent “staggering,” accusing Jackson of exploiting a “personal vendetta” to slander him. “50 Cent has spent too much time slandering Mr. Combs,” they added, referencing their beef dating back to the early 2000s.
The Docuseries: What We Know So Far
Directed by Emmy-winner Alexandria Stapleton and produced by House of Nonfiction, G-Unit Film & Television, and Texas Crew Productions, Sean Combs: The Reckoning promises “explosive, never-before-seen materials” chronicling Diddy’s rise from Harlem producer to Bad Boy empire-builder, and his dramatic fall amid over 50 civil lawsuits and federal charges alleging sexual abuse, trafficking, and racketeering.
The trailer, dropped on Good Morning America Monday, features intimate hotel-room footage from the six days before Diddy’s September 2024 arrest—showing him strategizing with lawyers and PR amid mounting scrutiny. It includes interviews with Danity Kane’s Aubrey O’Day, jurors from his trial, and others from his inner circle, unpacking the “gilded empire” and “underworld beneath its surface.” Stapleton told Variety: “This isn’t just about Diddy or Cassie or the victims or the allegations or the trial… It’s a mirror [reflecting] what we’re saying when we put celebrities on pedestals.”
50 Cent, who’s been trolling Diddy relentlessly (including memes and billboards outside his trial), promoted the series on GMA, calling the footage “closer than you can get” to Diddy’s mindset pre-arrest. He even teased a potential sequel if Diddy’s legal woes continue.
Diddy’s Conviction: A Quick Recap
Combs was convicted in September 2025 on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution (related to his infamous “freak-offs”) but acquitted on the three most serious charges: two counts of sex trafficking and one of racketeering. He was sentenced to 50 months in October 2025 and is appealing from Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center (transferred from Fort Dix in late November). Over 50 civil suits (settlements, including Cassie Ventura’s) linger, with more probes (e.g., L.A. County sexual battery) ongoing.
Netflix’s Defense: “All Materials Obtained Legally”
Stapleton and 50 Cent insist the footage and interviews were acquired through proper channels, with no unauthorized use. “We reached out to Diddy’s team multiple times for comment,” Stapleton told Variety. The series, produced by House of Nonfiction and G-Unit Film & Television, features voices from Diddy’s orbit, including Danity Kane’s Aubrey O’Day and trial jurors, unpacking his empire’s “gilded” facade and “underworld beneath.” Stapleton: “It’s a wake-up call for how we idolize people… Everybody is human.”
Netflix has not responded to the accusations, but the timing—mere hours before premiere—amplifies the drama. 50 Cent, reveling in the feud, posted on Instagram: “Good Morning America” promo clip from this morning. Tune in tomorrow at 7am est to see the trailer for my documentary Sean Combs: The Reckoning on Netflix. December 2nd.”
As Diddy’s appeal grinds on, The Reckoning drops Tuesday, December 2, 2025—poised to be Netflix’s most explosive music doc since The Tinder Swindler.
