Singer and songwriter Ed Sheeran has revealed how becoming a father motivated him to get fit and adopt a healthier lifestyle.

The 34-year-old admitted that he lived an unhealthy lifestyle from ages 20 to 30, describing himself as a “pizza-eating, beer-guzzling smoker” at heart. However, fatherhood brought a moment of clarity that changed his habits.

Sheeran recalled a pivotal experience shortly after the birth of his eldest daughter, Lyra. “I remember Lyra was two weeks old. I had my best mate over and we had a bottle of wine. I went to bed, and Lyra woke up just 20 minutes later. I thought, ‘I probably shouldn’t drink if I’m going to feel this dreadful—I want to be able to do the night stuff,’” he explained.

The singer said this realization sparked a broader desire to be a responsible parent, feel stronger, and stay healthy for both family and professional life. “I didn’t want to pick my kid up and have my back hurt. I also wanted to feel superhuman on stage,” Sheeran added.

In a chat with Men’s Health UK, he reflected on how his priorities have shifted in his thirties. “Underneath it all, I’m still a pizza-eating, beer-guzzling smoker, but that’s not my reality as a parent now. You have to make good decisions,” he said.

Sheeran’s transformation is evident in his recent shirtless photos, where he shows off his ripped physique and prominent tattoos, symbolizing both his fitness journey and personal growth.
