The Edo House of Assembly has confirmed six commissioner nominees and seven nominees as members of Edo State Independent Electoral Commission, EDSIEC.
Their confirmation followed the recommendation of the House Committee on Rules, Business and Government House chaired by the Majority Leader, Mr. Charity Aiguobarueghian.
The commissioner nominees are Messers Paul Ohonbamu, Washington Osifo, Paddy Iyamu, Andrew Ijegbai, Olabisi Idahomen, and Lucky Eseigbe.
Chairman of the house Committee on Rules, Business Government House, Mr Charity Aiguobarueghian while presenting the report of the screening committee to the house, said they were educationally qualified to be appointed as commissioners in the state.
The House thereafter adopted the committee’s recommendation in a motion moved by the majority leader, Mr Aiguobarueghian as seconded by the house minority leader, Mr Henry Okaka.
Similarly, the House also confirmed Jonathan Aifuobhokhan as EDSIEC chairman and Anthony Aigbokhomhan, Suleiman Ikhuoria, Umoru Frank, Imafidon Osarodion, Ojo Asein and Ighomo Egharevba as members of the commission.
Meanwhile, the House also passed the Secret Cult Prohibition Law 2025 and a bill for a law to extend retirement age of magistrates and presidents of Area customary court in Edo state from sixty to sixty five years.
