Edo 2024: Iyamu Commends INEC Over Extension of Voters Registration

The Honourable member representing the good people of Orhionmwon South Constituency in Edo State House of Assembly, Hon Bright Iyamu, has commended, The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the extension of the ongoing Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) in Edo State.
Recall the exercise was earlier scheduled for May 27th till June 5th but was extended yesterday, Tuesday 4th June untill Sunday, June 9th 2024, to enable more eligible voters to register.
The lawmaker, during an interview at Ugboko-Niro Primary, said the extension of the process was laudable, highlighting the importance of ensuring that every eligible voter has the opportunity to register.
He emphasized that the extension would provide additional time for residents who might have faced difficulties in registering within the initial time frame.
He further stated that the good people of Orhionmwon will utilize the opportunity to complete their registration.
“This extension is a welcome development,” Hon Iyamu noted, “as it allows more of our citizens to exercise their democratic right. A higher voter turnout will lead to a more representative election outcome, reflecting the true will of the people.”
Hon Iyamu while speaking on the upcoming September 21 election, expressed confidence in the Governorship candidates of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Dr. Asue Ighodalo and Barr. Osarodion Ogie, AiO², who will best serve their interests and bring laudable development and policy to Orhionmwon and Edo State.
He called on all eligible voters in the constituency to take advantage of the extended CVR period.
“It’s crucial for everyone who has not yet registered to do so. Our participation in the electoral process is the foundation of our democracy. By registering and voting, we have the power to shape our future”.
Hon Iyamu appreciated INEC for their commitment to facilitating a smooth and inclusive voter registration process. “INEC’s decision to extend the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) demonstrates their dedication to inclusivity and fairness in our electoral process. Their efforts are commendable, and I urge them to continue in this spirit of ensuring every eligible Nigerian can participate in the elections.”

The extension of the CVR period by INEC has been widely received as a positive step towards enhancing voter participation and ensuring a more inclusive electoral process in Edo State.
