Edo 2024: PDP Protest Governorship Election

By Adesuwa Louisa

Edo state Chapter of the Peoples Democratic party, PDP wants INEC to declare its Governorship Candidate in September 21st Governorship election, Dr Asue Ighodalo the authentic winner of the election.

Some PDP chieftains and supporters made the remark during a protest at the INEC Head office at Aduwawa, Benin City.

Honourable Matthew Iduoriyekemwen, Director General of the PDP Campaign Council, urged the judiciary to scrutinize evidence brought before them and ensure justice is served accordingly. Dr. Aziegbewin equally warned electoral officers in areas where malpractices occurred that the PDP was already aware of their attempts to alter results to align with the stupidity carried by the officials of the commission.

The protesters pledged to continue their agitation, citing widespread disillusionment with the election process due to the umpire’s manipulative tendencies. The protest highlighted concerns about electoral integrity and the need for accountability. Edo State’s governorship election has been marred by controversy, with accusations of vote-buying and manipulation.

Dr. Aziegbemwin’s message reverberated with the crowd, emphasizing the importance of reclaiming their mandate. He was joined by critical stakeholders in PDP, including Hon. Osaze Osemwengie Ero and Rev. Olu Martins.

The people of Edo State demand justice, and the international community watches closely. The outcome of this election has huge significant impact on other future elections.

Dr. Ighodalo has vowed to challenge the election results in court, citing glaring evidence of electoral malpractices. The party’s determination to reclaim their mandate has energized Edo people and supporters of the People Democratic Party.

As the protest continues, one thing is clear: the people of Edo State will not back down until their voices are heard. The Asue/Ogie Mandate Recovery Group’s resolve remains unwavering, and their struggle for democracy and accountability serves as a beacon of hope for Nigeria’s future.
