Edo First Lady Pledges Support for Farmers

The Coordinator, Office of the First Lady, Edo State, Mrs. Edesili Okpebholo Anani, has reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to strengthening the agricultural sector through empowerment of farmers across the state.
The event was organized by Edo State All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) held in Benin City.
She noted that agriculture remains a key priority for the administration, stressing that empowering farmers would lead to increased food production and food security for all residents.
“Once we empower our farmers, we will have abundant food on our tables and reduce hunger across the state,” she said.
Mrs. Anani emphasized that under the distinguished leadership of Governor Monday Okpebholo, agriculture remains a key priority of the government’s development strategy, in line with the SHINE Agenda.
According to her, vast hectares of fertile land are available across Edo State to ensure the sector flourishes, the Governor is fully committed to providing farmers with the necessary support, resources, and enabling environment to succeed.
She further highlighted the state’s rich and fertile soil, which supports the cultivation of a wide range of crops, including cassava, vegetables, plantain, and other staple foods.
She warned that neglecting farming activities could lead to food shortages and hardship, urging residents to embrace agriculture as both a livelihood and a collective responsibility.
Mrs. Anani also admonished farmers and stakeholders to support government policies and programmes, describing the current administration as one focused on prosperity, wealth creation, and good governance.
“This is a government of prosperity and opportunity. I encourage all farmers to key into the policies, obey the law, and work closely with the government for the overall development of our state,” she added.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Edo State All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Alhaji Dagwo Bako, commended the government’s efforts and described Edo State as a leading agricultural hub in Nigeria.
He noted that the state ranks among the top producers of cassava and palm oil in the country, attributing this success to the hard work of local farmers and the state’s favourable climate.
The high point of the event was the presentation of a certificate of membership to Her Excellency, Mrs. Edesili Okpebholo Anani, in recognition of her contributions to agricultural development, naming her the Number One Female Farmer in Edo State.
