In a heartwarming display of compassion and humanity, the Coordinator, Office of the First Lady, Edo State, Mrs. Edesili Okpebholo Anani, has generously settled the medical bills of a baby detained at St. Philomena Hospital in Benin City, Edo State.

The baby’s parents, Mr. Saviour Sunday and Mrs. Beauty Sunday, from Akwa Ibom State, were struggling to pay the outstanding bill of N1.4 million. The couple had been referred from one hospital to another, incurring significant medical expenses for their premature baby boy, born on 29th May 2025.

Mrs. Anani condemned the inhumane treatment the couple faced due to their inability to pay and emphasized that such situations will not be tolerated in Edo State. She stressed that the life of every child matters. The Coordinator was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Government House, Mrs Edith Sede.

The couple, who had paid N200,000 and received a donation of N70,000, were unable to cover the remaining balance. Mrs. Beauty Sunday, a recent civil service recruit, and Mr. Saviour Sunday, a barman, were overwhelmed by the medical expenses.

They appreciated the intervention of the Coordinator, Office of the First Lady for her motherly love and kind gesture.

The couple has been reunited with their baby, and the medical bills have been settled. This act of kindness has brought relief to the family during a challenging time.
