Edo State Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to nurturing the ingenuity and potential of Edo’s young people, particularly those whose ideas can drive the digital transformation of Nigeria and the wider African continent.
Speaking at the Edo Youth Impact Forum (EYIF) 2025, Governor Okpebholo—represented by Secretary to the State Government Musa Ikhilor—assured attendees that the state government will sustain and expand its support for startups as a key engine of economic growth. “We will continue to invest in our youth, providing the environment they need to thrive,” he said, promising even larger grants in future editions of the forum.
EYIF 2025 brought together hundreds of aspiring entrepreneurs for mentorship, networking, and pitching sessions. Of the many ideas presented, 10 finalists were selected to advance to the final round, and five winners were each awarded a ₦2 million grant to kick-start their ventures.
Mrs. Edesili Okpebholo Anani, Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady, urged the young innovators to seize every opportunity. “Empowering our youth to become leaders and change-makers is essential,” she remarked. “We recognize the importance of equipping our young people with the skills, knowledge, and resources to excel—especially in e-commerce and digital marketing, which are vital in today’s economy.”
Dr. Israel Dayo, the APC National Youth Leader, challenged participants not to be limited by their circumstances. “Start small, grow large, and think global,” he advised. “Your background does not define your destiny; you have the power to shape your future through self-leadership and continuous personal development.”
Commander Mitchell Ofoyeju of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Edo State delivered a sobering reminder of the risks posed by drug abuse. He highlighted its devastating social impacts—ranging from family breakdown and increased criminality to school drop-outs and premature death—and called on young people to steer clear of narcotics.
Among the grant recipients were Iyere Great, Chidinma Aduba, Princewill Okpe, Joseph Origho, and Emmanuel Edoze, each of whom outlined innovative business plans to judges and sponsors. The forum also featured panel discussions with established business leaders, who shared practical insights on succeeding in Nigeria’s commercial landscape.
The event culminated in musical performances by John Ikpowonsa Ighodaro, popularly known as Johnny Drill, and the formal presentation of cash prizes to the five winners. EYIF 2025 underscored the Edo State Government’s unwavering dedication to youth empowerment and job creation.
