The Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, has called on policymakers to strengthen institutional systems and deepen social impact to advance the Renewed Hope Agenda for women, children, families and vulnerable groups in Nigeria.

Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim made  the call at the 25th session of the Annual National Council of Women Affairs, held at the New Festival Hall, Government House, Benin City.

The minister pointed out that the gathering underscores a shared national commitment to inclusive growth, social justice and human-capital development.

She highlighted the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Social Impact Intervention and the Renewed Hope Initiative as strategic frameworks designed to improve social protection and expand opportunities.

Governor Monday Okpebholo, represented by Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa, drew inspiration from Edo State’s historic women leaders, noting that long before gender equality became a global priority, Edo women were shaping the course of history.

He used the opportunities to pay tribute to Queen Idia, mother of Oba Esigie, whose courage helped defend the Benin Kingdom, and to Emotan, the 15th-century market leader who safeguarded the throne for Oba Eware the Great.

Okpebholo linked these legacies to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, stating that the administration’s drive for economic revitalisation and social inclusion is restoring confidence in the nation’s economy.

He reaffirmed Edo State’s commitment to ensuring that women are key drivers of sustainable development.

The Coordinator Office of the First Lady Edo State, Mrs Edesili Anani, praised Governor Okpebholo for his dedication to supporting women, children and vulnerable groups.

She noted that the state has established mechanisms to protect children’s rights and empower parents and caregivers through the SHINE Agenda, adding that the administration is driving inclusive prosperity.

Edo State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs Eugenia Abdullah, thanked partners and donors for their contributions to the success of the council meeting.

The event was attended by representatives of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, council members, private-sector partners and civil-society organisations, all reaffirming their commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda.
