The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has successfully concluded a specialized training programme on Renewable Energy Integration for Oil and Gas Installations in Edo State, in partnership with Solidare Limited.

The week-long capacity-building initiative, held in Benin City, equipped dozens of young engineers, technicians, and professionals with practical skills to incorporate solar, wind, and hybrid power systems into upstream, midstream, and downstream oil and gas assets — a major step toward Nigeria’s energy transition and net-zero goals.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, NCDMB Executive Secretary Engr. Felix Ogbe said:

“This training is a deliberate move to prepare our youths for the future of energy. The world is shifting to cleaner sources, and Nigeria cannot be left behind. We are building local capacity to design, install, operate, and maintain renewable energy solutions right here on our oil and gas platforms.”

Participants praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Ogbe-led NCDMB for the empowerment opportunity, describing the programme as “life-changing”.

One graduate, Blessing Osamudiamen (Electrical Engineer), said:

“We were taught how to integrate solar PV and battery storage into offshore platforms and flow stations. This is the kind of hands-on skill that gets you hired by IOCs and marginal field operators tomorrow.”

Key Highlights of the Programme

  • Focus: Solar PV systems, wind energy, hybrid microgrids, energy storage, and decarbonisation strategies for oil & gas facilities
  • Fully funded by NCDMB
  • Part of the Board’s 10-year plan to train 10,000 Nigerians in high-demand oil, gas, and renewable energy skills
  • Fully aligned with the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act

Engr. Ogbe reaffirmed NCDMB’s commitment:

“Local content is not just about Nigerian companies winning contracts — it is about Nigerian brains solving Nigerian and global energy challenges. Renewable integration in oil and gas is the future, and we are preparing our youths to lead it.”

The training adds to NCDMB’s growing portfolio of youth empowerment initiatives, including the ongoing Oil & Gas Field Readiness Programme targeting 10,000 beneficiaries nationwide.
