In an effort to enhance youth development and empower women, the Edo State Government partnered with Yongxing Steel Company during a courtesy visit held today at Government House.

The initiative is part of a broader strategy to improve the lives of Edo State residents through targeted development programs.During the visit, the Coordinator, Office of the First Lady, Mrs. Edesili Okpebholo Anani, warmly welcomed the delegation, led by Public Relations Officer, Hazel Han.

Mrs. Anani emphasized that the state is open to legal partnerships that directly benefit its people. “It is for the benefit of the good people of Edo State that we are here,” she said.

“We will work closely with the Ministry of Health to ensure our initiatives are implemented effectively. During the upcoming free medical check-up, all eyeglasses will require a prescription—except for reading glasses. Additionally, we will provide blue-ray glasses for children and photochromic glasses for adults.”

Mrs. Anani further highlighted the Government’s commitment to empowering women and girls. “Our programs are designed primarily to benefit women and girls by elevating their standard of living, promoting equity and parity, and providing quality education and digital skills training essential in today’s technology-driven world,” she explained.

Addressing broader social challenges, she noted the critical issue of menstrual hygiene in developing regions. “Many girls still struggle to access sanitary pads. World Menstrual Hygiene Day observed on May 28, we will distribute sanitary pads to girls in rural areas of Edo State. Our goal is to end period poverty, reduce social isolation, and alleviate the stigma surrounding menstruation by ensuring access to clean water, proper sanitation, and hygienic menstrual products.”

Earlier in her address, Hazel Han highlighted Yongxing Steel Company’s longstanding commitment to Edo State. Established in the state ten years ago, during the Administration of the former Governor of Edo State, Senator Adams Oshiomole, as the first Chinese company.

Yongxing Steel Company has since facilitated the entry of over ten additional Chinese firms, all actively contributing to the local community through robust corporate social responsibility initiatives. “Our partnership with the Edo State Government will enable us to make a positive impact on women and youth in the region,” she stated.

“The Consul General of China is aware of our efforts, and we are dedicated to ensuring that our corporate social responsibility initiatives benefit women and girls across Edo State.”

Through these collaborative efforts, the Edo State Government continues to reinforce its commitment to creating sustainable development opportunities for its youth and women, driving socio-economic progress throughout the state.
