EDO STATE GOVERNMENT PROMOTES STEM EDUCATION FOR CHILDREN

Benin City – The Coordinator, Office of the First Lady, Edo State, Mrs. Edesili Anani, has emphasized the importance of incorporating science and technology into children’s education to develop critical thinking skills and prepare them for a future driven by innovation.
Mrs. Anani made the remarks during a courtesy visit by the Edo State Skills Development Agency at the Government House, highlighting the need to empower children to become future problem-solvers and leaders. “Investing in children’s education is investing in our collective future,” she stated.
The Head of Department, Edo State Skills Development Agency, Mr. Tunde Osayamen, explained that the ‘Talents Unlocking Potential’ project recognizes the inherent potential of every child to drive innovation and creativity.
The project, which involves students from various secondary schools in Edo State, aims to identify and support talented children, providing them with necessary resources and encouragement to develop their skills and address challenges facing the state.
Five schools have made it to the final stage of the Talents Unlocking Potential competition, showcasing innovative projects in various fields.

The schools and their projects are:
– Urora Senior Secondary School, with Ivie Oghenerhore’s shoe making expertise
– Idia College, with Odimweinge Abigwense’s fashion styling skills
– Queen Ede Senior Secondary School, with Ivie Okoduwa Excel Ofure’s clothing and textile specialization
– Emotan College, with Tokpie Mary’s art and architecture project and Olu Precious’ Artificial Intelligence Robot.
– Active Brains Academy, with notable projects including Uzendu Ansel Osadebamwen and Olalekan Obatoyin’s Smart Glove for paralytic patients, and Obotoyinbo Opeyemi’s Hydraulic Crane.
The initiative seeks to nurture young talents and create a brighter future for Edo State, aligning with the government’s commitment to promoting education and innovation in the state.
