Edo State Govt, German Film Academy Partners to Grow Creative Sector

In a significant move to boost the creative industry, the Edo State Government has forged a partnership with the German Film Academy. The collaboration seeks to empower young filmmakers with cutting-edge skills, innovative techniques, and advanced equipment, positioning them for future success and driving sectoral growth.
During a meeting at Government House in Benin City, The Coordinator, Office of the First Lady Edo State, Mrs. Edesili Okpebholo Anani, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, highlighting Edo State’s receptiveness to investments in the creative sector.
She appreciated the collaboration and extended an invitation for further partnerships, encouraging mutual learning from Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage.
“I am excited about this exchange program,” Mrs. Anani said. “Edo State is open to investment, and the creative industry remains largely untapped, presenting a significant opportunity for growth and development.”
The Edo State Director of Entertainment and Creative Economy, Ambassador Solomon Okosun, stated that local filmmakers would receive training from the German Film Academy using cutting-edge equipment for a film project.
The Project Manager, Nollywood Workshop 2025, Abel Alechenu, said the program includes three weeks of training in Benin and one week at the Nollywood Film Festival in Lagos, with the top two performers receiving further training in Germany.
The project selects local filmmakers for training in Germany, promoting cross-cultural exchange and knowledge sharing.
This partnership is expected to boost the creative industry in Edo State, providing young filmmakers with the skills and exposure needed to succeed globally.
