The Edo State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Samson Osagie, has disclosed that the State Government has set machinery in motion to compensate individuals or corporate organisations whose properties were illegally destroyed by the immediate past government of Governor Godwin Obaseki.

Osagie who disclosed this on Monday in Benin, added that the State Government will also return all landed properties illegally collected from their owners by the past administration.

According to him, the State Government is fully aware that the immediate past government illegally acquired some community lands and properties without compensation.

He said: “I want to assure those whose lands or properties were illegally taken or destroyed that the present government led by Senator Monday Okpebholo would compensate them.

“Governor Okpebholo is already righting the wrongs of the past government in order to instill harmony in the state.

“There are so many landed properties of Edo citizens who have worked hard and invested in the state that were forcefully acquired without compensation.

“This administration is going to make sure that the owners of those properties are compensated, while those that needed to be released will be released to the owners. No victim will be left unattended.

“Every Edo person will get justice in the state, but that is not to say that if there are things the government will want to take responsibility for the government will not do it.”

Osagie further disclosed that all law suits that are capable of derailing the government would be thoroughly handled by the Ministry of Justice, to prevent any unforeseen distractions.

He also added that the Ministry will provide legal services to the government to ensure that justice is adequately and properly delivered.

“My Ministry will provide the legal advice to the Governor to ensure governance has a human face where there will be no oppression and victimisation in the State,” he said.
