In a significant political shift ahead of the Edo 2024 Gubernatorial election, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ugboko Ward 5, Orhionmwon, has faced a major setback as hundreds of its supporters have defected to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
The defectors hail from several communities, including Ugboko-Numagbae, Iduenke, Iduenbo, Iguododo, Oteleku and Ugbighele. They have all expressed strong confidence in the candidacies of Asue Ighodalo and Osarodion Ogie also known as AiO² in the upcoming election.
Speaking on behalf of the decampees, the spokesperson, Billy Aikpitanyi and Monday Osayiwu noted that the move to the PDP was driven by a belief in the vision and leadership qualities of Asue Ighodalo. “Asue Ighodalo represents a movement for change and development. We believe in his capacity to bring progress and positive transformation to our communities,” the spokesperson stated.
Asue Ighodalo, a prominent candidate in the gubernatorial race, has garnered widespread support due to his reputation for integrity and commitment to community development. His running mate, Osarodion Ogie, also enjoys significant popularity and is seen as a capable leader.
The defection is seen as a significant boost for the PDP, which is looking to consolidate its position and make significant gains in the forthcoming election. With the support of these new members, the party is hopeful for victory at the polls.
The decampees were formally received into the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) by Hon. Bright Iyamu, Hon. Monday Igbinigie, the D.G. campaign Orhionmwon, Rt. Hon. Nosayaba Okunbor, Hon. Sunday Okankan, and Ward Chairman Mr. David Ovieko and Hon. Best Oghomwentiti.
As the election date approaches, PDP has intensified campaigns, aiming to secure the support of the electorate and achieve victory.
