The Executive Chairman of the Edo State Board for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (EdoBTVET), Barr. (Mrs.) Onomen Briggs, today joined the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), Dr. Aminu Mohammed, in monitoring the conduct of the TVET 1 Entrance Examination at the Federal Science and Technical College (FSTC), Uromi.
Speaking during the monitoring exercise, Dr. Mohammed disclosed that the entrance examination was conducted simultaneously in 203 centres across the country. He noted that the conduct of the examination at FSTC Uromi showed significant improvement compared to previous years, attributing the success to measures put in place to restrict access to the examination venue by individuals not directly involved in the exercise, including parents and guardians.
According to him, the decision was collectively reached by the Federal Ministry of Education, school principals, and other stakeholders involved in the conduct of the examination to ensure a more organized and conducive environment for candidates.
Dr. Mohammed further explained that the examination consisted of two components—the conventional paper-based assessment and the Computer-Based Test (CBT). He expressed satisfaction with the overall conduct of the examination, describing it as fair, transparent, and well-coordinated.
He revealed that a total of 15,281 candidates participated in the examination nationwide, comprising 10,676 males and 4,605 females. He added that Enugu State recorded the highest number of applicants, while Zamfara State had the least.
The NABTEB Registrar also stated that the Board is working to ensure that examination results are released within 21 days of the examination. He further disclosed that the selection process for successful candidates is expected to be concluded by July 29, adding that candidates will be able to access their results through the examination portal.
In her remarks, Barr. (Mrs.) Onomen Briggs commended the orderly conduct of the examination and highlighted the visible presence of security personnel at the venue. She noted that the security arrangements provided a sense of safety and reassurance for candidates, parents, guardians, and examination officials.
The EdoBTVET Chairman also observed that the candidates displayed confidence and composure throughout the examination process. She praised the adoption of the CBT system, describing it as a welcome development that aligns with global best practices and the demands of a technology-driven society.
Other officials present during the monitoring exercise included the State Coordinator of NABTEB, Mrs. Bose Ikheloa, the Principal of FSTC Uromi, Mr. Egaga Francis, and other stakeholders involved in the conduct of the examination.
