EFCC invites suspended chairmen of 18 LG councils in Edo for questioning

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has invited the suspended chairmen of the 18 Local Government Councils in Edo State for investigation.

EFCC in a letter dated 17 December, 2024 and signed by the Director of Investigation, Abdulkarim Chukkol, was directed to the The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government/Chieftaincy Affairs, through the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor.

The Commission noted that it becomes imperative to request for certain clarification from the 18 Local Government Chairmen in a case it is investigating.

The letter reads further:

“In view of the above, you are requested to kindly inform and release the 18 Local Government Chairmen to attend an interview with the undersigned through ACE II Dare Folarin at The Commission’s Benin Zonal Directorate, No. 1 High Court Road, G.R.A. Benin Edo State,Nigeria at 1000 hours.

“The Chairmen of Akoko-Edo, Egor, Esan Central, Esan North East, Esan South East, Esan West, Etsako Central, Etsako East & Esako West should report on Thursday 19th December, 2024 while lgueben, Ikpoba Okha, Orhionmwon, Ovia North East, Ovia South West, Owan East,Owan West and Uhunmwode Local Governmemt Councils report on Friday 2th December 2024.

“The Chairmen are required to come along with the Certified True Copies of comprehensive documentations relating to Staff Strenght and Payroll including but not limited to the following documents;

“Details of accounts where funds are received for payment of staff
salaries. Details of accounts where funds are reserved for staff salaries
exigencies.

“The statement of account of the above i & ii from 1s1 January 2024 to Date. Any other information that will assist the investigation.”

According to the anti graft agency, the request is made pursuant to Section 38(1) &(2) of the Economic
and Financial Crimes Commission (Establishment) Act, 2004.
