The inaugural Benin Unity Cup, sponsored by Senator Neda Imasuen (Chair, Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions), launched on Friday, November 21, 2025, at Crescent FC Sports Complex in Irhirhi, Benin City, uniting Edo South’s seven LGAs through football.
Matchday 1 Highlights
- Egor LG 5-1 Uhunmwode LG: Hosts roared back from an early deficit, with Ernest’s brace leading the charge. Patrick, Ehigie, and Chuka sealed the rout. Imasuen and dignitaries watched the thriller.
- Orhionmwon LG 1-1 Oredo 2: A gritty draw in the evening clash.
- Oredo 1 3-0 Ovia South-West: Walkover win after opponents no-showed.
Action resumes Monday, November 24, with more fixtures. Imasuen hailed the event’s potential: “Football has become a global industry, and Edo State possesses untapped potential capable of reaching elite levels. I implore the teams to adhere strictly to the rules.”
The cup fosters unity across Oredo, Orhionmwon, Egor, Ikpoba-Okha, Ovia North-East, Ovia South-West, and Uhunmwode—proving “unity is not theory; it is UNITY in ACTION.”
