In a new interview with The Sunday Times, Eva Longoria (49) opened up about why waiting until age 43 to have her son Santiago Enrique Bastón (born 2018) was the best decision of her life.
“You have so much more wisdom and patience when you become a mother in your forties. It was all about me for so long. Forty years of me was enough time.”
The Desperate Housewives star, married to businessman José “Pepe” Bastón since 2016, said she had already traveled the world, built her career, and lived fully before motherhood.
“I had travelled, I’d done everything I needed to do for my career. Now everything I do is just icing on the cake, and I get to do that with my son.”
Longoria now picks projects selectively (currently starring in festive film Christmas Karma and directing Kim Kardashian in Netflix comedy The Fifth Wheel) only saying yes if the people and passion justify time away from Santiago.
“My family is my priority. If I’m saying yes to something and it’s taking time away from them, it’s got to be something I’m really going to enjoy and people I really want to work with.”
She also praised husband Pepe for being an incredible partner and father, and embraces her role as stepmom to his three older children (Natalia, and twins Mariana and José Antonio).
Motherhood in her 40s? Eva says it was perfect timing.
