Up to 30% of Nigerians—that’s roughly one in every three—will grapple with a mental health condition in their lifetime, Chekker Health CEO Victor Emaye warned at the second annual Mindsplace Awakening Summit, spotlighting digital peer networks as lifelines in a crisis-starved support system.
Themed “UNITE25: Communities Supporting Wellbeing in Crisis and Beyond”, the virtual summit—timed for World Mental Health Day and global awareness month—drew nearly 2,000 participants from Naija and beyond, proving tech can turbocharge connection, crush stigma, and build resilience in mental health deserts.
Emaye drove home the power of shared scars: “When someone says, ‘I’ve been there, felt that, fought through’—that’s rocket fuel for recovery.” Digital tribes, he argued, are flipping isolation into solidarity for those battling depression, anxiety, trauma, substance abuse, or bipolar swings.
