The Met Gala 2026 co-chairs have been officially announced: Beyoncé, Venus Williams, Nicole Kidman, and of course, Anna Wintour. The annual event, held on the first Monday in May in New York City, is widely regarded as “fashion’s biggest night out” or the Super Bowl of fashion.
This year marks Beyoncé’s first Met Gala appearance since 2016, when she attended the Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology theme wearing Givenchy.
Met Gala co-chairs oversee every detail of the night, from interior design and catering to the guest list, as well as hosting, possibly performing, and crucially, interpreting the gala’s theme through their fashion choices. Previous co-chairs have included stars and creatives like Zendaya, Harry Styles, Rihanna, Donatella Versace, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Sarah Jessica Parker.
2026 Theme: Costume Art
The 2026 gala will reflect the Costume Institute’s spring exhibition, centered around Costume Art. The exhibition, opening to the public on May 10, 2026, explores the relationship between the human body and fashion in art, pairing 200 historical and contemporary garments with paintings, sculptures, and other objects from the Met’s collection.
Highlights include a 16th-century painting of Adam and Eve by Albrecht Dürer displayed alongside a Walter Van Beirendonck ensemble, and a photograph of La Poupeé paired with a Rei Kawakubo design for Comme des Garçons.
Curator Andrew Bolton said:
“I wanted to focus on the centrality of the dressed body within the museum, connecting artistic representations of the body with fashion as an embodied artform.”
The exhibition is organized around thematic body types, including the naked body, anatomical body, ageing body, and pregnant body. It will also be the first exhibition in the Costume Institute’s new permanent galleries, the 10,000ft Condé Nast Galleries, named for the late founder of the company.
The theme will likely inspire daring, creative interpretations from attendees. Past Met Galas have seen Rihanna in her omelette dress and Diana Ross in a train so long it required two assistants. This year, the co-chairs’ outfits are expected to be major highlights.
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez Bezos are the main sponsors for 2026’s gala, marking the company’s growing engagement in fashion. Their involvement has sparked discussion and criticism across social media.
Other host committee members include Anthony Vaccarello (Yves Saint Laurent), Zoë Kravitz, Doja Cat, Sabrina Carpenter, Gwendoline Christie, Lena Dunham, and Chloé Malle, Vogue’s incoming editor-in-chief.
